Here's to an Even Sweeter Tomorrow
In Sweetwater, nearly 700 acres of scenic ridges and canyons are being preserved as open space for the enjoyment of residents now and for generations to come. But “green” goes far beyond conservation at Sweetwater…
Say Yes to Dark Skies, Bright Stars, and Green Living at Every Turn
Here in the heart of Texas, the stars at night really are big and bright, thanks to our “dark sky” policy that limits street lighting to Pedernales Summit Parkway, the main road through the community.
In Sweetwater, nearly 700 acres of scenic ridges and canyons are being preserved as open space for the enjoyment of residents now and for generations to come.
But “green” goes far beyond conservation at Sweetwater.
Water is a precious resource in the Hill Country, so we’re working to use it wisely. At the entrance to Sweetwater, you’ll see a gorgeous stone water feature that uses reclaimed water. We also use reclaimed water to irrigate our common area landscaping. Throughout our neighborhoods, we employ leading-edge storm water management techniques to protect the quality of our creeks and streams.
Our Partnerships are Proof of Our Commitment
We believe in sustainability. We create a vision for the communities we develop, often paying homage to the history and culture of that region. We have partnered with others who have the same commitment to the land and the community in which we live.
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
We’re working with environmental scientists from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at the University of Texas on a major ecological restoration project to eradicate invasive species on selected areas of the property. In their place, you’ll find native Texas grasses and a profusion of wildflowers in late spring and early summer. This is a long-term effort and you’ll be able to monitor our progress by visiting Sweetwater often.
Austin Pets Alive!
Austin Pets Alive! works with local shelters to pull animals directly from euthanasia lists and invests whatever resources necessary to rehabilitate them so they are more easily adopted by Austin families. Newland Communities is proud to support such an amazing organization and Sweetwater is now home to some of the same pets that once occupied the APA shelters thanks to partnered adoption drives and other events that enable our builder partners, residents and local community members to get involved and add to the more than 25,000 animals APA has saved since their inception in 2008.
Energy Efficiency Partners
Our builders exceed national standards for energy efficiency. From innovative building processes to insulation to high-efficiency heating and cooling, the builders are creating far more efficient green homes today than even just a year ago. That’s good for your comfort, great for your wallet and even better for the environment. Ask each builder about their green-building options and standards.
